Overview & Highlights

Seven Lucky Gods is a standout Japanese restaurant nestled in the vibrant heart of Bristol’s harbourside at Unit 26, Cargo 2 on Wapping Road. Specializing in an immersive small plates dining experience, it artfully captures the essence of Japanese bar food with a contemporary twist. The intimate setting, including cozy covered outdoor seating, invites guests to savor each dish in a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for sharing with friends or celebrating special occasions.

The menu is a feast for the senses, boasting a curated selection of exquisite small plates and an inspired drinks list. Popular dishes such as the katsu arancini—crispy, golden, and bursting with flavor—are a must-try, as are the spicy tuna rolls and cod & chips sushi, which consistently draw praise for their fresh, expertly balanced flavors. The Sichuan fried cauliflower stands out as a bold, delightfully crunchy plate that packs a punch, while the curry fries offer a comforting, savory contrast that keeps diners coming back for more.

The bar at Seven Lucky Gods is equally impressive, featuring a refined range of vodkas like the smooth Haku and Tried & True, alongside artfully crafted cocktails including the Kiki, Kamaji, Yubaba, and Kaonashi. Each cocktail is a thoughtful creation that complements the vibrant flavors of the food, enhancing the overall sensory journey. For those who enjoy sparkling wines, offerings such as the elegant Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut and the fresh Bolé Brut Trebbiano elevate the dining experience.

What truly elevates Seven Lucky Gods beyond its culinary offerings is the attentive and knowledgeable service. Guests often highlight the warm hospitality and staff willingness to accommodate questions and recommend dishes, making each visit feel personalized and welcoming. The open-plan kitchen adds an exciting element, allowing diners to witness the artistry behind every plate, adding to the anticipation and enjoyment.

While portions are intentionally designed for sharing and can be modest in size, this encourages an adventurous dining style, letting you sample a variety of flavors across the menu. Some visitors note the absence of explicit portion size descriptions on the menu, which might require a bit of navigational finesse when ordering with groups. The restaurant is accessed via a flight of stairs, an important consideration for accessibility.

Whether you’re seeking a memorable birthday dinner, an intimate date night, or a lively evening with friends, Seven Lucky Gods offers a captivating blend of authentic Japanese flavors, inventive cocktails, and a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere on Bristol’s wharf. It’s a culinary gem that invites you to explore and enjoy the joyous spirit imbued by its namesake—seven gods of fortune—through every carefully crafted bite and sip.

We went to Seven Lucky Gods on a Tuesday evening, and sat outside because the weather was nice. There was lovely covered seating available. The restaurant style is small plates, so we ordered 8 between the 4 of us. The quantity of each dish was small, but the quality was amazing. We ordered two servings of the arancini as there are just two on each plate, but everything else was good to share amongst 4. In fact, the curry fries were so incredible, we had to order a second serving. Great Southeast Asian fusion-style cuisine, I'll definitely be going back again.

I had a Yuzushu Suke, Curry Fries & Spicy Tuna Rolls whilst my friend had Korean Baby Back Ribs & Choya Suke. the staff were really helpful with all the questions we had. The food & delious was delicious

Went for a birthday meal with some family last night, I was seriously impressed with seven lucky gods. The food for a start was incredible, as a 'tapas' style restaurants it comes out as it's ready which seemed to be quite quickly. This meant we started off with some and quite happily ordered more with the safe knowledge that it'd come while we were still eating. The staff were excellent, very kind and knew the menu well. Was offered a birthday drink, can't complain. Plenty of seating, some indoor and some out so book ahead if you want to sit inside. Highly recommend to anyone.

Really great service! Our food was absolutely amazing , we went for our birthday meal and it was perfect. The cod and chips sushi was unreal and we fought over the last asparagus!! One of the best restaurants on the wharf!

Been wanting to check out this place since I saw it on an episode of Topjaw on YouTube. It didn't disappoint. The food was incredible, cooked fresh direct from the open planned kitchen where you can see everything happening. I will absolutely be revisiting.

I visited the Japanese restaurant Seven Lucky Gods and was quite satisfied with the taste of the dishes. The fried potatoes were especially delicious – simply amazing. However, there are a few drawbacks. First of all, the menu doesn't indicate the portion sizes, which makes ordering a bit difficult, especially when you're with a group. Additionally, the portion size of some dishes doesn't match the price. For example, for £7, we received a very small piece of fish, which was a bit surprising. It would be great if the restaurant could address these issues. Also, keep in mind that the service charge is included in the bill. Otherwise, everything else was great – nice atmosphere and tasty food.

Craving great tasting Japanese Bar food and a delicious small plate experience? Seven Lucky Gods serves it up best. Every dish was packed with exquisite Japanese flavours. The Sichuan Fried Cauliflower small plate was delicious, and the service service was very good too. Accessibility Rating as there is a flight of stairs to access the restaurant.

A great dining experience and impeccable service. The staff are incredibly attentive, the spicy tuna roll and salmon sushi are fresh and expertly prepared, as are the curried chips, katsu arancini and the seaweed salad. A must-visit spot for great food and genuinely warm hospitality.
